After being certified in Romana’s Pilates at True Pilates NY in 2010, Elana Jacobs has taught more than 8,000 hours of individual Pilates sessions in Pilates Studios in New York, Seattle, Boston, Chicago, and New Orleans. During these sessions, she has witnessed firsthand how this form of movement can be profoundly healing.
In an effort to be an advocate for women’s bodies and health, in 2019, Elana began additional education in this field. Her certifications include Pre and postnatal Pilates Specialist™, Support your Floor™ (pelvic floor), and The Center Method for Diastasis Recti Recovery™ through The Center for Women’s Fitness with Carolyne Anthony.
Over the last 12 years, Elana has served as the Artistic Director of performing arts company CabinFever that she co-founded. Institutions have commissioned Elana to create new works at The Marigny Opera House, The Museum of Contemporary Art, Hyde Park Art Center, Theaster Gates’ Stony Island Arts Bank, the Soho House, Town Hall Seattle, Comfort Station, and On the Boards.
In 2017, Elana created a workshop for artists, non-artists, and in corporate settings entitled Art & Core. The purpose of Art & Core is to find core strength through connecting to inner creativity. So far, she has facilitated the workshop in studios and in institutions including at Soho House Chicago, Outerspace Studios (CHI), The Martin (CHI), Hyde Part Arts Center (CHI), Atlas Pilates (SEA), True Pilates (BOS), and for writers at Cards Against Humanity (CHI).
Her mentors include Debra Fernandez, Lori Coleman Brown, Teresa Shupe, Victoria Torrie-Cappan, Megan Del Prete, Chick Owens, & Eiric Orvid. photo by Hillary Olson
